Do you long to make more of an impact in your career, or perhaps even, the world? Do you feel like you’re meant for more, but you’re not sure what that “more” is?
Quite often people stay on the surface of their career and discover only what feeds their ego, i.e. what makes them feel smart, powerful, accomplished, successful, adequate, unique, financially comfortable, etc.
The problem with this approach, however, is that it will only satisfy you for a while.
Once the newness of that promotion wears off and that increase in salary becomes your new norm, or that endorphin rush you felt from the meeting you just slayed wears off, you’re right back where you started – trying to figure out how to feel completely satisfied with how you’re spending the majority of your life.
Don’t get me wrong, these are all powerful motivators to drive our decisions and behaviors, but what will give you true and consistent peace of mind, fulfillment, satisfaction, success and abundance – which never wears off – is aligning your true purpose with your career.
If you’re rolling your eyes right now – I get it. This stuff can feel a little esoteric.
But if you’re willing, I invite you to appreciate your ego and how it serves you, and then ask it to step aside for the time being to make room for your soul to take the lead here.
In Tim Kelley’s book, True Purpose – 12 Strategies for Discovering the Difference You Are Meant to Make, he guides you through self-discovery around the foundational aspects of your purpose:
1- Essence: Your radiant quality of being. This is what you are naturally, and how others see and experience you.
2- Contribution: The transformational impact that happens to others as you embody your essence. This is the thing you do that is special and that you naturally give to others.
3- Mission: The highest order of your contribution. This is how you’re meant to change the world just by being you.
4- Message: The wisdom you’re meant to share with others and the world.
